Berlin’s Messegelände exhibition grounds are easily identifiable from a distance, marked by the icon Funkturm radio tower dating from 1926. The tower, which looks rather like a smaller Eiffel Tower, soars nearly 147 metres upwards. The Messegelände exhibition grounds have been hosting international trade fairs and congresses since 1924.
The architect was Heinrich Straumer, who was also responsible for equipping the neighboring radio tower. The name Ausstellungshallen am Kaiserdamm, which was based on the first two halls, only gradually gave way to the current name Ausstellungshallen am Funkturm.
